Direct action: The straight mouthpiece exerts equal and direct pressure on the entire horse's mouth. It acts symmetrically, allowing for simple and gentle communication.

Tongue relief: The 26 mm central port creates space for the tongue, reducing pressure on this sensitive area. Its shape is therefore more anatomical for the horse. Ideal for horses that react negatively to tongue pressure.

Blue Steel: Blued steel is an alloy that oxidizes slightly on contact with saliva, releasing a sweet taste (sweet iron) that encourages the horse to salivate more, thus promoting a relaxed mouth and better contact.

Calf leather cover (optional): Natural leather offers a soft and warm feel in the mouth, encouraging bit acceptance, particularly beneficial for sensitive or young horses.

This straight bit applies even, direct, and symmetrical pressure to the horse's mouth, thus sending a simple signal without too much coercion, thanks to the tongue port which relieves excessive pressure. Its sweet iron coating also promotes better salivation for increased relaxation.

    • Horses sensitive to tongue pressure.
    • Young horses being broken in or trained.
    • Horses needing a soft, consistent contact.

    1. Height in the mouth
🔹 The straight bit should rest lightly on the corners of the mouth, without pulling them upwards.
🔹 It should not create wrinkles (unlike some double-jointed bits).
🔹 Slight contact, sometimes 1 small wrinkle, is tolerable depending on the model and the horse's mouth.
Too high → discomfort, pulling, horse excessively chewing or agitated.
Too low → the bit hits against the teeth or tongue, discomfort, causes stress.

    2. Width:
🔹 The bit should extend 0.5 to 1 cm beyond each side of the mouth, without floating.
🔹 It should neither pinch the corners of the mouth nor have too much lateral play.
    Too narrow → pinching, sores.
Too wide → instability, rubbing, loss of precision.

    3. Horse's reactions
    This is the best indicator:
    • Does the horse accept contact without becoming tense or agitated?
    • Does it salivate normally?
If the horse gets annoyed, pulls, shakes its head, or puts its tongue over the bit, the adjustment or type of bit may need to be re-evaluated.

    Expert's Take:

This plain straight bit with a Blue Steel tongue port is an excellent option for riders seeking a soft, simple, and well-distributed contact. The tongue port offers additional comfort for sensitive horses, while the option of a calfskin cover allows for customizable comfort. Its direct action without leverage makes it a sensible choice for flatwork and young horses in training.
