HIGHLIGHTS

Simplicity - Relaxation - Comfort

Choose a Size

Single-jointed: allows for a partial dissociation of the left and right aids, which can help in guiding or bending the horse more easily.

Slightly flattened cannons: Unlike perfectly round cannons, this shape creates a flat area that allows for better pressure distribution on the bars and tongue, limiting areas of excessive compression.

Loose rings: ensure a faster and smoother transmission of rein action to the horse's mouth, which can improve responsiveness and precision of reactions.

Blue Steel: oxidizes on contact with saliva, releasing a natural sweet taste. This promotes salivation and a more relaxed mouth.

The single-jointed Blue Steel bit offers a gentle action with mobility between the two arms, allowing for partial disengagement of the aids. The Blue Steel material promotes salivation for improved comfort in the mouth, while maintaining clear and direct contact.

• Green or schooling horses.
• Horses that respond well to a broken action.
• Riders looking for a simple, effective, and economical bit for everyday use.

Contrary to popular belief, two wrinkles at the corners of the mouth are not necessarily sought after, especially with a jointed bit.
The bit should rest just in contact with the corners of the mouth, creating a slight wrinkle (1 maximum).
→ This ensures sufficient stability without causing excessive tension.
Too high = risk of discomfort, pinching of the corners of the mouth, constant tension.
Too low = the bit rattles against the teeth, becomes mobile, and the joint can hit the tongue or palate.

Specific risks of the single-jointed bit: with a single-jointed bit, incorrect adjustment can:
• accentuate pressure on the palate if the bit rides too high in the mouth,
• cause a shearing effect on the tongue or bars if the mouthpiece moves too much.
Hence the importance of precise adjustment: neither too high nor too low, to limit the harsh effect of the joint. Note that a horse with a low palate might be bothered by the bit's joint if it rides up.

Expert's Take:

This Eco Blue Steel bit offers an excellent compromise between comfort and effectiveness. Its single joint combined with a flattened mouthpiece allows for better pressure distribution. The loose rings ensure a quick and reactive action, which can be a real asset in basic training as well as during certain learning phases. The Blue Steel completes the ensemble by promoting a relaxed mouth.
